On February 6, 2018, 14 FDW members participated in the “Women in Blue Day” at the Georgia Capitol. FDW members were honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Georgia Federation of Democratic Women and other Democratic women from across the State of GA as democratic women were recognized on the floor of the Senate. The host for the day was Senator Emanuel Davie Jones, District 10 (Parts of Dekalb and Henry Counties). He updated the democratic women on important legislation that will be discussed in the 2018 General Assembly. The group was also honored to have Representative Billy Mitchell, District 88 (Stone Mountain) speak to on “Lobbying 101.” It should be noted that Representative Mitchell is one of the sponsors of HR 969 introducing the Equal Rights Amendment (RA) in the Georgia Legislature giving Georgia an opportunity to ratify the ERA. The group also received a warm welcome to the Capitol from Senator Valencia Seay, Representative Debra Bazemore, District 63 and Representative Derrick Jackson, District 64.
