Over 50 Fayette Democratic Women and their guests attended the December 7th Annual Retreat that was held at the Historic Courthouse on the Square in Downtown Fayetteville! The retreat’s theme was “Women Will Stand Up, Speak Up, Show Up – The Urgency of Now: Our Work to GET OUT THE VOTE (GOTV) in 2020”.

A special thank you to the Program and Activities Committee for doing such an excellent job in organizing and implementing the 2019 FDW Annual Retreat! Emphasis was placed on efforts to register voters and GOTV in 2020. Of significant note was Saira Draper, Director of Voter Protection, Democratic Party of Georgia powerful message about what her organization is doing to protect the right of every eligible Georgian to cast their ballot and to ensure that every ballot counted.

Strategies for engaging the members were a priority. We celebrated the newest Fayetteville City Council Members Darryl Langford and Joe Clark. Additionally, Janice Laws, Candidate for Georgia State Insurance Commissioner, 2018, and Oyin J. Mitchell, Candidate for Fayetteville City Council, Post 2, 2019 shared what inspired them to run for elected office, and the lessons learned through the process. Also, Chris Pigors, Candidate for Fayette County Sheriff, 2020 shared his vision and platform to ensure safety for all Fayette county residents and visitors.

A very special thank you to Dawn Oparah, LaChanze Roberts and Sheryl Corke for their leadership in this regard. Every FDW member involved in planning the retreat played a vital role in its success!
